Lesser Yellowlegs, Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge, Juneau, Alaska-Image #2927

Sep 2, 2015

To be successful in shooting shorebirds, one needs to get down and dirty. I shot this image of a lesser yellowlegs in the tidal pools in the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge. To get the good reflection one has to be as low to the ground as possible. For this shot it meant lying flat on my belly in the tidal muck with my camera braced just inches above the water on my waterproof camera pack. This photo illustrates the month of April in my 2016 Alaska Calendar. Thanks for visiting. Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: 500mm f/4, 35mm Velvia slide film, Digital Scan, Copyright Mark Kelley 2015
