“Leviating Leviathan” – Photo Art Print P208
Winner, North American Nature Photography Association-NANPA Showcase Tier I 2013
When an adult humpback whale jumps out of the water it spins around to land on its back. The theory is that the whale’s backbone and rib cage can support the whale’s weight better than its belly as the whale crashes back into the water. This juvenile whale does not have the technique mastered yet and after it completely clears the water performs a belly flop instead.
This image is a Showcase Winner in the 2013 North America Photography Association (NANPA) Showcase Competition and appeared in Expressions 2013 on page 7.
