“Mendenhall Flowers” – Photo Art Print P109

One of the most photographed scenes in Juneau is the field of fireweed at Brotherhood Park next to the Mendenhall River with the Mendenhall Glacier in the background. There is a great hiking trail right through the middle of this field.

The Mendenhall Glacier is located just 12 miles from downtown Juneau and is one of 38 glaciers flowing from the 1,500 square mile Juneau Ice Field. From its source at an elevation of 4,500 feet to its terminus in Mendenhall Lake, the Mendenhall Glacier is approximately 13.5 miles in length. Mendenhall Lake is a freshwater lake created by rainwater and glacier melt. Fireweed is the best known wildflower in Alaska.
