Two baby moose closely follow their mother while crossing a pond in Denali National Park, Alaska. Moose calves are born with a red-brown coat, which changes to golden brown and almost black in adulthood, depending on the season and age of the individual. Moose (Alces alces) are the largest member of the deer family, and the Alaska-Yukon subspecies (Alces alces gigas) is the largest in the world. An adult bull moose can stand six feet (1.8 m.) at the shoulder and weigh up to 1,600lbs (725kg), while the smaller, more diminutive females weigh between 800-1,300lbs (364-591kg).
