White Pass and Yukon Route, Skagway, Alaska – Image #2918

Jul 2, 2015

The White Pass and Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad links the port of Skagway with Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon in Canada. The railroad has no direct connection to any other railroad and is one of Alaska’s most popular tourist attractions. I like photographing the train in early June because the lime-green leaves of the early spring cottonwoods contrasts so brilliantly against the darker green spruce forest. Later in the summer the cottonwood forest turns darker green and looses the wonderful color separation that gives this image such lovely layering.  This image illustrates the month of May in my 2016 Alaska calendar. Thank you for visiting. Copyright Mark Kelley 2015 Camera: Nikon D800, Lens: 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom,  Digital capture, ISO 400, polarized
