Wedding Bowl, Mt Ben Stewart, Juneau – Image #2939

Nov 25, 2015

I mentioned last week that I love snow and we just heard that the opening of Juneau’s Eaglecrest Ski Area has been moved up to this Saturday, November 28! Juneau skiers and riders are having visions of knee deep powder. This is my son, Owen, skiing dream powder in Wedding Bowl on Mt. Ben Stewart just out of bounds from the ski area. I love all the white-on-white in this image; a great example of how the color white comes in so many tones and shades. Note the blues in the snow surface as the white snow reflects a blue-bird sky. The backlighting shining through the snow blast makes this powder rooster tail appear semi-translucent. The backlighting is also the reason why the rooster tail is separated from the snow drift. This photo illustrates the month of February in my 2016 Juneau Calendar. Thanks for visiting and I wish you a great Thanksgiving holiday!
