“Stare Down”, Brown Bear, Pack Creek, Admiralty Island, Alaska – Image 2815

At Pack Creek, bears and birds have a symbiotic relationship. The bears catch the spawning salmon, drag the fish to the shore to eat, and leave the scraps for the birds mostly ravens and gulls to scavenge on. Also, the activity of the bears charging up and down the creek catching salmon stirs up the creek beds releasing the salmon eggs that the gulls in particular feed on. Neither of them appear to mind the other. Once in a while they have a staring contest. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.
