Puffin, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska – Image #2922

Jul 29, 2015

This past month I spent seven days onboard Ronn Patterson’s M/V Delphinus as photo leader for Dolphin Charters. Eight photographers joined us for a full week in Glacier Bay National Park and we had an amazing trip. The next two weeks, I plan to share just a few go the many wonderful images I was able to shoot.  I have been photographing Glacier Bay National Park for over 35 years, and this year was the first year I was able to nail a very good image of a puffin. Many people believe puffins are everywhere in Alaska and, specifically, in Glacier Bay. Puffins are actually pretty rare in Glacier Bay, and really the only regular opportunity to photograph them is near South Marble Island and in front of Margerie Glacier. I photographed this guy skimming over the top of the water with my Nikon 80-400mm in DX mode which gave me the equivalent of a 600mm lens. Next year I will be leading the exact same trip to Glacier Bay National Park with Dolphin Tours on July 13-19, 2016. Come and explore Glacier Bay with me and the crew of the M/V Delphinus. Thanks for visiting. Copyright Mark Kelley 2015 – Camera: Nikon D800,  Lens: 80-400mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom,  Digital capture, ISO 1600
