“Once Upon Alaska” 21st Spread…Image 2880

Jul 16, 2014

I photographed this cow moose from my passenger seat window as the moose was standing alongside the road in Denali National Park.  I had no idea how big these animals were until it crossed the road right in front of our van. The bottom of its rib cage was higher than the hood the van. Unfortunately, moose-vehicle collisions are fairly common in Alaska. Just imagine if we had hit this moose the main part of its torso would have come right through the windshield. Always brake for moose! A good size moose will weigh between 800 to 1,500 pounds. This image is included as the 21st spread in my children’s book, “Once Upon Alaska”.  Thank you for visiting.
