“Once Upon Alaska” 20th Spread…Image 2879

Jul 9, 2014

In spite of having one of the most spectacular mountains in the entire world (Mt.McKinley or Denali) and the tallest in North America, Denali National Park was made a national park to help preserve the dall sheep populations. This full curl ram was hanging out with three other large rams in late August at a 4,000 foot elevation in the Alaska Range. I had carried about 35 pounds of camera equipment for this shoot – including my tripod, a 500mm lens, two camera bodies, and an assortment of other stuff like filters and doodads. It was worth the effort. A Dall sheep can live to be a dozen or more years old. Judging from its horn, this big ram is at least ten years old. This image is included as the 20th spread in my children’s book, “Once Upon Alaska”.  Thank you for visiting www.markkelley.com
