Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska Image 2988

Dec 28, 2016

The clear ice of a frozen Mendenhall Lake gives us a mirror reflection of the face of Mendenhall Glacier. The people in this image are a bonus, serving as a reference point of just how big the glacier really is. I have only seen the ice this crystal clear a couple times in my forty plus years of photographing the Mendenhall Glacier. This photo is a favorite from the days when I was still using 35mmm color slides and illustrates the month of January in my 2017 Juneau, Alaska calendar. A cautionary note…this couple is walking dangerously close to the face of the Mendenhall Glacier…a practice discouraged by the US Forest Service. Wishing you a Happy New Year and all the best in 2017- Camera: Nikon F5, Lens: Nikkor 24-70 F/2.8, 35mm Velvia color slide film ©Mark Kelley
