Humpback Whale, Sunset, Southeast Alaska – Image 2690

I have shot a lot of whale photos and have a published book on whales. The color space for most whale images ends up being predominantly black and blue. It is always great when the environment allows a new color space. To get these different color spaces, usually means shooting at the edges of light in the early morning or late evening. The problem is that it is difficult to be out on the water during these critical hours. I shot this photo when I was the photo leader on a week-long small ship cruise through Southeast Alaska. I shot this image from the bow of the boat well after sunset. Then I returned to the lounge for an evening hot chocolate. I would recommend going on a cruise that focuses on photography and allows the passengers/photographers the opportunities to experience and shoot this hard to access light. I will leading just such a trip next July 6-12 in Glacier Bay National Park with Dolphin Charters (www.dolphincharters.com). Come join me for a week cruise in the Bay. This photo illustrates the month of December in my Southeast Alaska 2011 calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.
