Humpback Whale, Juneau, Alaska – Image 2628

Oct 1, 2013 | 0 comments

I love to watch whales. The sea around Juneau is stuffed with these 50-foot, 40-ton mammals. Humpback whales are famous for showing off. Some of their showy behaviors include spy-hopping, bubble-net feeding, breaching, pectoral fin slapping, and fluke slapping. I love photographing the X-Games of whale behavior, but the majority of the time (95% or more) all I get to see is backs and tails rising in the air as they go for deep dives. This image illustrates the month of July in my 2010 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thanks for visiting.Nikon D300, 80-400mm F/4.5-5.6Nikkor, Digital Capture-Mark Kelley
