Humpback Whale Blows, Juneau, Alaska-Image 2984

Nov 30, 2016

Wikipedia lists the origin of the word “photography” as follows: φωτός (phōtos), genitive of φῶς (phōs), meaning “light” and γραφή (graphé), meaning the “representation by means of lines” or “drawing”, thus together the words mean “drawing with light”.  The essential word is “light”.  The evening backlighting shining through the multiple blows of these humpback whales makes this image work. This photo illustrates the month of November in my 2017 Alaska Calendar. Enjoy the photo and thank you for visiting.
