Fairweather Sunset, Idaho Inlet, Icy Strait, Alaska…Image # 2894

Oct 22, 2014

This is one of my all-time favorite sunsets. Some look at this photo, and think I just added a black box below the mountain horizon. Actually, the lighting conditions were such that the ocean turned black. Ask any mariner and they will agree that there are times when such a lighting condition happens. As great as the lighting is over the Fairweathers in Glacier Bay National Park, it is the little birds that add an additional perspective of scale and size that gives this image a visual boost. This photo is the cover of my 2015 Southeast Alaska Calendar and illustrates the month of April in this calendar. Thank you for visiting. Camera: Nikon F5,  Lens: Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8, 35mm Velvia Slide Film, Digital Scan – Copyright Mark Kelley
