Dandelion Bear, Juneau, Alaska – Image #2914

Jun 3, 2015

A black bear along the Auke Rec bypass here in Juneau, Alaska eats the succulent spring stems of the dandelion flower. Black bears are omnivores and spend much of the spring and summer and sometimes all summer just eating plants to sustain themselves.  Lucky bears can fatten up on salmon when the fish return to the local streams sometime in late June and July. In the late summer and fall, our Juneau bears target the blueberries. Thank you for visiting. Camera: Nikon D800,  Lens: 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom,  Digital capture, ISO 1200 – Copyright Mark Kelley 2015
