Bald Eagle, Alaska…Image # 2895

Oct 29, 2014

Found only in North America, there are more bald eagles in Alaska than the rest of the entire world… some 30,000 individuals. When I have photographed eagles before, the light has always come from above the eagle casting the feather detail under the wing into a dark shadow. This eagle was flying low on a bright snowy-winter day. The snow reflected the light onto the underside of its wings showing the feathery detail. Even better yet, I photographed the bird with my Nikon D800 that produces a 36 mega-pixel image revealing the incredible details in the feathers and claw. This photo illustrates the month of November in my 2015 Southeast Alaska Calendar. Thank you for visiting. Camera: Nikon D800,  Lens: Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8, Digital Capture – Copyright Mark Kelley
